Udviklingsminister, Søren Pind (V), afvikler u-landsbistanden til Latinamerika. Nicaragua og Bolivia mister den danske hjælp til en række fattigdomsprojekter. "Dear friends, Firstly, let me send our warmest regards to you and please allow us to express our deepest gratitude for all the support and help that through the years your generous country has been providing to Nicaragua.
Danish cooperation plays a very important role helping the poorest people in Nicaragua, who have suffered a lot from natural disasters, climate change, war, international financial crisis, and deserve better opportunities. It has been said that the new Danish cooperation policy proposes to concentrate in the African continent.
Lad Danmark fortsætte regionalt i Latinamerika - og ikke kun i Afrika
Danida, an exemplary donor, is cooperating with 17 program countries (2 in Latin America) In 1992, Denmark cooperated with 70 LDCs. Danida's reports show that Africa has been a high priority for Danish development assistance; Danish development aid’s main concentration has been Africa. More than 60 per cent of the bilateral assistance (i.e. the Danish assistance aimed directly at a recipient country) is earmarked for Africa. Please have a look, e.g., at the following links:

http://en.mercopress.com/2010/03/20/latinamerica-left-out-of-denmark-s-aid-and-development-programs It would be very unfortunate for the poorest people in Nicaragua and am sure in Bolivia if Denmark, phase out development aid from the region in a time of huge challenges: climate change, Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), etc. Achieving the MDGs by 2015 would be harder without your generous support; Danida, in the case of Nicaragua, focus on the most vulnerable people, in the areas of the country that are most at risk from the effects of global warming.
It has been mentioned many times before that thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and that does not shorten the life of the first candle. Denmark is well known in Latin America and internationally for its generosity. Human Rights have no nationality or geographical location, they are universal and Denmark has always been recognized as one of the human rights champions.
We are very thankful to Denmark and the generous people of Denmark. We would appreciate your continued support.

Thank you for the remarks on the positive role that Danish development assistance to Nicaragua has played over the years. As you know, I have made public the intention to phase out our bilateral support to Nicaragua. I can assure you that the phasing out will be conducted in a decent and sustainable manner with respect for pro-democratic forces and the poor people in Nicaragua. The decision to phase our bilateral aid to Nicaragua is not to be perceived as a sign of lack of results. It is based on a strategic choice to increase our focus on Africa and promote democracy. For me, it is important to focus our assistance where poverty is deepest - and poverty is without comparison deepest in Africa. Let me assure you of the priority Denmark attaches to Latin America and the large potential of a strong cooperation with the region. Søren Pind, Minister for Development Cooperation" IBIS, kommentar 15.4 v. generalsekretær Vagn Berthelsen: "IBIS har ingen planer om at lukke i hverken Nicaragua eller Bolivia. Vi har hele vejen igennem protesteret i diverse medier (se Fx Berlingske, artikel af Sten Jensen om meldingen) og vores høringssvar (se hjemmesiden) og et fælles NGO LA-høringssvar giver vores begrundelser.
Dansk Handicap Forbund, kommentar 15.4 v. ulandskonsulent Henry Lind: "I dag vil et høringssvar blive sendt til Søren Pind i forhold til at Danmark trækker sin støtte tilbage fra Latinamerika. Høringssvaret er underskrevet af en række danske NGO´er arbejder i Latinamerika, først og fremmest i Bolivia og Nicaragua og Dansk Handicap Forbund er medunderskriver af høringssvaret. Dette for at sige, at vi er imod at Danmark lukker programmerne ned i Latinamerika, når dette er sagt mener vi ikke at Udenrigsministeriets beslutning vil få nogle nævneværdig betydning for DHF´s arbejde i regionen. DHF har siden 1990 arbejdet i Nicaragua, og skal vi sige det selv med stor succes. Vi har først og fremmest arbejdet med at styrke handicapbevægelsen, og vi mener at vores arbejde er gjort færdig og vi lukker højst sansynlig vores kontor i Nicaragua i 2012. Om vi stadig vil have nogen aktivitet i Nicaragua efter 2012 er endnu uvist. Jeg ønsker at gøre det tydeligt, at denne beslutning intet har at gøre med den nylige udmelding fra Søren Pind, da DHF beslutning om at stoppe projektaktiviteter er truffet for et par år siden.
Lukning af ambasade i Nicaragua og Danidas programmer vil selvfølgelig formindske DHF´s muligheder for at koordinere med deres programmer, hvilket vi i nogen grad har gjort hidtil. Det vil selvfølgelig også betyde, at vi ikke længere kan få støtte fra ambassaden til diverse praktiske ting, samt at vi ikke har nogen direkte dialog på stedet med det officielle Danmark.
DHF forventer at blive i Honduras en god årrække endnu, og vi er i øjeblikket ved at planlægge at starte op i Bolivia, disse planer vil ikke blive berørt at udenrigsministeriets beslutning om lukning af deres programmer eller ej."

"Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke har arbejdet i Nicaragua siden begyndelsen af 1990'erne og ønsker at fortsætte sit program i landet og i den mellemamerikanske region. Sammen med en række andre danske organisationer har Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke underskrevet en fælleserklæring, som blandt andet opfordrer udviklingsminister Søren Pind til at genoverveje sin beslutning om at afvikle den danske bistand i Nicaragua.
Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke fortsætter implementeringen af sin strategi i Mellemamerika og Nicaragua frem til slutningen af 2011 - og hvis Danida fortsat vil støtte NGO arbejdet i landet økonomisk, så fortsætter vi gerne vores indsats i Nicaragua. Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke følger naturligvis løbende den politiske og demokratiske situation i Nicaragua, men umiddelbart har vi ikke tænkt os at trække os ud."
